“When God Forgives – He Forgets”
The little boy, offended by his parents discipline, finished his nightly prayer as they sat by his side. “I’m sure you noticed I left you out of my prayer.” We chuckle at the boys’ honesty. He couldn’t let it go and wanted his parents to know exactly how he felt. How many times have you felt that way toward someone that hurt you? They are easier to ignore than speak too. If we avoid them, we won’t have to say anything or act nice because the truth is, we don’t want to be nice to them. Who in your circle are you trying to eliminate from your life because they hurt your feelings?
When God forgives us, He no longer lets our sin influence His feelings toward us. He lets it go. The disciples must have crushed the heart of Jesus that night in Gethsemane. They slept while He wept. But Jesus didn’t let the actions of His followers influence His fellowship with Him.
Hebrews 8:12 informs us, “For I will be merciful to their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” What a God! What a Lord!! What a Savior!!! When we repent of our sins, He not only forgives us, but all our sins are banished from His memory. They are gone. Forgotten!! They will NEVER be held against us again. We should rejoice in this fact because we are truly set free from every bondage that held us captive. But, so says the scripture, “Forgive others just as Christ forgave you” (Colossians 3:13). Don’t be like the little boy. Be an agent of God’s grace and mercy. Don’t let the wrongs of another toward you influence how you treat them.
