“The Value of Re-runs”

I’ve never been interested in watching any type ballgame that has already been played and someone inadvertently tells me the final score.  The suspense and excitement of the outcome has been removed.  I must admit though, that I’m guilty of watching movies with my wife that we may have seen some time before.  We know we’ve seen it, but can’t quite remember what happens until something takes place.  Then it’s, “Oh yeah, I remember it now!”  You know what I’m talking about.  Right?  The value in knowing how things turn out of removes the drama, anxiousness and sometimes fear.  That is unless we are constantly replaying a previous bad experience in our mind.  Sometimes we are also overwhelmed worrying about what might happen in the future.

Life is filled with re-runs.  Repetition is something we do every day.  It’s always a good time to be a Christian and to have our faith based in an anchor that will hold us steady during any type storm or adversity.  For the believer, we acknowledge yesterday is gone, tomorrow hasn’t come yet, but today – YES TODAY – God has renewed His mercies to us.  Not only is our Lord faithful with His daily mercies, He’s also faithful in keeping His promises.  You may be drifting at sea because of a horrendous situation that has hit your life or that of a loved one in recent days.  Fear, loneliness and despair has invaded your heart and mind.   You are wondering how this situation is going to turn out.  Or, will it ever end?

God never promised a problem or difficult free life for His children.  In fact, He told His disciples (which includes each one of us), “I have told you all this so that you may have peace IN ME.  Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.  But take heart, because I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD” (John 16:33 NLT).

Monday night the College National  Championship football game was played.  It can be seen over and over again on some sports stations.  The Alabama fans will be elated watching it again, but Buckeye lovers will be disappointed and heartbroken.  The thing is – everyone knows how the game ended so there will be no surprises – it’s a re-run.  That said, I have GOOD NEWS for every person reading this.  Whatever you are going through personally along with all the concerns you may have about things happening in our country and throughout the world, I urge you to NEVER FORGET – God has your personal dilemma and our world’s situation in His hands.  Interested in a great “Re-run?”  Read the conclusion of the Bible – WE WIN!!  Not because of anything we are doing or may have done, but because of what Jesus has done and is doing.  Of all the voices screaming for attention in our society and world, it’s time to get alone and listen to the voice of Jesus.  He isn’t worried or fretting one little bit over your or the world’s situation.
