“Single Words”

Many give the excuse they don’t read the

Bible because it’s difficult to understand.  I try to get people to read it and simply obey the things they do understand.  I mean really, it isn’t difficult to understand we are to love God with all our heart.  In doing that we’ll love others.  The Bible is a love letter to you from God.  He wants the very best for you and has provided you with a personal manual to live by.  Hebrews 4:12 informs us, “The Word of God is living, active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides the soul from spirit; joints from marrow, it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”  To simplify: read this verse again.  Whatever thought processes you have regarding it, God knows what you are thinking.  But then, God ALWAYS KNOWS what you are thinking because He is God.

The Word of God is powerful.  I enjoy looking for single words that speak to me.  For example;  Jesus said, “Come.”  That’s a powerful word.  As one “comes” to Jesus that’s when a life can be changed forever.  Words like, love, forgive, forsake, honor, trust and obey, are a few other single words that speak to the heart.  Put your mind to use throughout the day thinking about “single words” that have special meaning to you.  Here’s another that challenges the heart, soul and mind.

“’ONLY’ conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ” (Philippians 1:27 NASB).  The word “ONLY” means ‘this one thing you do’.  This is the most important thing, that is what the Christian life is all about.  The word “ONLY” has an exclusivity about it.  The word “ONLY” removes a lot of options if we truly want to please God with our life.  The NIV version says, “Whatever happens…”.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if when facing temptation (and the ‘whatever’s’ of life) the word “ONLY” started blinking on and off in our minds, reminding us, our purpose and desire is to live a life “worthy for of the gospel of Christ?”  If God said this is possible, then He is saying, “I’ll give you the power to do so!”  So, here’s one more powerful single word;  will you “BELIEVE” what God is telling you?  If you BELIEVE it, you can do anything, because He’ll provide all the power you need helping you live a life “worthy” of His gospel!!  Try it and you’ll see.
