“Don’t Complicate Things”
Over the years I’ve heard many people say, “I would be a Christian, but I’m not a good enough person.” Or, “As soon as I get my life straightened out, I’ll start attending church.” Here’s another, “I could never do all the things God wants me to do!” My advice – DON’T COMPLICATE THINGS!! Stop trying and start trusting.
God loves you whether you love Him back or not. You can’t do anything so horrible that He would stop loving you and you’ll never do anything so great that He’ll love you more. Truth be known, you and I aren’t worthy of His love and we certainly don’t deserve His forgiveness. But He gives both to us. Your Christian life is not based on what you do or don’t do, but who you are. You are one of God’s children. He has a plan and purpose for your life. Jesus died on the Cross for your sins before you were ever born. He rose from the dead, ascended into Heaven leaving this statement for all mankind, “I go to prepare a place for you” ( John 14:2).
So how does one live a Christian life? All God wants is your heart. He wants to be first in your life and being first means there is a personal relationship between you and Him. This relationship begins with a sincere confession, “Lord, I’m sorry for every sin I’ve ever committed. I want you in my life – I need you in my life. Forgive me and help me become the person You want me to be.” If you say that prayer (or one similar) and mean it, God will forgive your sins. He promised to do so (I John 1:9). Quit trying and start living your Christian life. “What if I mess up!” Forget the IF – you will!! Remember riding a bike for the first time or ice skating? When you fell you packed up and quit right? No, you got up started again. When you connect with Jesus every day by reading the Bible and praying, your spiritual life will grow. Things will become natural because His Spirit is within you and empowers you. Following Christ isn’t complicated, just open your heart and let Him guide you.
